10 faktaa Australiasta (perustuen viikon oleskeluun täällä):
1.Hedelmät on ihania: mangosta valuu nestettä ulos kun sen viiltää veitsellä poikki. Kaikki hedelmät täällä ovat lähes poikkeuksetta kotimaisia ja siltä ne kyllä maistuukin. Syödään ehkä keskimäärin 13 hedelmää päivässä täällä
2. Kahvilakulttuuri on täysin erilaista. Kahviloihin tullaan aamupalalle, jota saa yleensä tilata koko päivän. Lounasvaihtoehtoja on joku 2, kun taas eri aamupalavaihtoehtoja on 12: bircher, mysli, beaked beans, toast with jam or vegemite,you name it. Aussibrekkie <3
3.Kukaan ei koskaan näytä hikiseltä kuumana päivänä, täältä löytää ilmielävät Barbiet ja Kenit (ärsyttävää, että ne on vielä kaiken lisäksi huippumukavia).
4. Homoparit: kaikkialla. Miten niitä voi olla niin paljon?
5. UV-suoja +50. Siitä huolimatta osa suomalaisista junteista (Noora) onnistuvat palamaan. Aurinkorasvaa on kaiken lisäksi tarjolla kaikkialla: hostelleissa, baaritiskillä…
6. KAIKILLA on värikkäät Niken lenkkarit. Korostamme sanaa KAIKILLA ja sillä tarkoitamme, että IHAN JOKAISELLA SIIS.
7. Aamutoiminta: kahvilat aukeaa 6.30 (ja sulkeutuu klo 15?), ihmiset heräävät klo 5, jotta ehtivät aamulla ennen töitä surffaamaan, lenkille, rannalle joogaamaan (tämänhetkiset hostimme juuri kutsuivat meidät aamulenkille/joogaan Bondi beachille: herätys 5.15, taitaa jäädä väliin…).
8. Avuliaisuus: kaivappa hetkeksi kartta esiin ja näytä miettivältä, niin hetkessä ympärilläsi kuhisee avuliaita ihmisiä, jotka tahtovat varmistaa että you’re all right.
9. Sushia löytyy joka kulmasta: nam. Liian monta paikkaa testattavana.
10.Oopperatalo on oikeasti läheltä tosi ruma. Moni kakku päältä (tai kaukaa ja postikorteista) kaunis…
10 Facts about Australia (based on our one week experiences in here)
1. Fruits all delicious: once you cut a mango you can see the juice coming out from it (never seen that happening in Finland). All fruits are from Australia and you can actually taste it! I think our average daily dose includes around 13 fruits.
2. The café culture is nothing like in Finland: breakfast is served all day long and while there are around 12 different brekkie options in the menu, lunch is limited to 2 options (that’s why you keep eating breakfast all day long!) Also there is no such thing as a difficult customer when it comes to ordering coffee: soy, skimmed, ¾ cop or weak long black with hot milk on the side are just regular orders (and the barista always knows how to make hearts or leaves from the milk frost).
3.Everybody looks fabulous even on a super hot and sweaty day. Here you can find the actual Barbie’s and Ken’s (and even more annoying is that these people are so friendly and nice to you!
4. Gay couples. Everywhere. Seriously, do they exist this much?
5. UV protection +50. And obviously it is still not enough for some Finnish people (Noora) who keep burning and receiving these comments that she should probably put some sun lotion on her face. Thank you.
6.EVERYONE wears Nike runners. And yes, we would like to highlight the word EVERYONE, and by that we mean every single Australian (and most of the backpackers and tourists as well).
7. Mornings: lazy mornings are not common for Australians. All the cafés open at 6.30 am (and weirdly close around 3p m?), people get up at 5 to be able to go surfing, running or exercising before heading to work (we were just invaded to join tomorrow morning for a run/yoga at the beach, but since the wake up would be at 5.15 am, we might just have to do a rain check on that…).
8. Hospitability: all you need to do is to open your map and look slightly lost and there are already heaps of people wanting to make sure that you are all right.
9. There are good-looking sushi places in every cor ner: I think we might have to stay a bit longer to be able to test them all.
10. The Sydney Opera House is not as pretty as it seems from the pictures. Once you take a closer look you see that it is actually quite brown and not pretty from the inside at all. So, what we do is keep taking pictures from a longer distance.
